Denise McGill

As I looked at the photography of Denise McGill, I admired the element of emotion in her photos. They were all very striking and intense. So I asked her how she manages her own emotions as she takes photos of people who are overwhelmed with emotion.

She said that she just has to stay in focus. She is doing her job and cannot loose track of taking the photos by getting to intimate with the subjects. Instead, she thinks about the hours that the lighting will be good, the amount of time she has, and keeping herself on track. She has to somewhat detach herself to take these photos. And when she is on these photography trips, she knows in her mind that it is required of her and she is not going for a vacation.
